SIBA is a project of
the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic (Sri Dalada Maligawa) and was initiated
with the blessings of the Most Venerable Prelates of both the Malwatta and
Asgiriya Chapters of Siyam Nikaya of the Buddhist Sangha in Sri Lanka, by Hon.
Pradeep Nilanga Dela, the Chief Lay Custodian or the Diyawadena Nilame of Sri
Dalada Maligawa. Established in February 2009, it acquires its singular
significance and uniqueness particularly among Sri Lankans and Buddhists in
general due to its association with Sri Dalada Maligawa.
With the invitation of
Hon. Pradeep Nilanga Dela, the Chairman of SIBA, the first batch of Buddhist
Leadership students for the BA degree programme was ceremonially admitted by
His Excellency Mahinda Rajapakse, President of the Democratic Socialist
Republic of Sri Lanka, on Thursday 23rd July 2009. His Excellency the President
together with the Ambassador of the Royal Norwegian Government and the Chairman
SIBA laid the foundation stone for the new SIBA building complex and also launched
the SIBA website on the same day. The new building complex was opened by the
Most Venerable Prof. Dr. Dharmakosajarn (currently, Phra Brahmapundit), former rector
of Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University on 10th August 2010.
SIBA is located at
Kundasale, Pallekele, 08 kilometers away from Kandy, and located on a
picturesque 27-acre extent of land at Pallekele bordering Kandy- Teldeniya main
road, setup within a Monastic and eco-friendly Environment.

To be a leading
International Buddhist University of Buddhist learning providing guidance to
leadership based on the development of wisdom and inculcation of moral values.
Mission
Providing and promoting education
and training to interested laypersons and members of the monastic community in
Sri Lanka and abroad by creating opportunities and facilities to learn teach
and apply the knowledge acquired. This will help one to realize for oneself the
veracity of the teaching of the Buddha to enable them to create such
understanding in others and thereby serve humanity in general.
