MCU Rector Opens National and International Academic Forums at Lamphun MCU College, Gearing Up to Nominate Kruba Srivichai

Lamphun – 27 September 2026, Phra Theprattananayok, the Ecclesiastical Provincial Governor of Lamphun and Abbot of Wat Phra That Hariphunchai Woramahawihan, kindly presided over the opening ceremony. Following that, Prof. Dr. Phra Brahmawatcharatheeracharn, Rector of  Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University (MCU), delivered the keynote address at the 11th National and 2nd International Academic Conference (MCULPN - AC 2026) under the theme on  "The 150th Anniversary of Kruba Srivichai's Birth: Towards a World Eminent Personality," the conference has been being held from September 27–28, 2026, at Lamphun MCU College. The event utilizes a hybrid format (onsite and online) to welcome participants from around the globe.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phrakhru Sirisutanuyut, Director of Lamphun MCU College, detailed the event's objectives, noting that the conference is a collaborative effort between Lamphun MCU College, professional organizations, and domestic and international networking partners. The ultimate goal is to compile comprehensive academic data to officially nominate "Kruba Srivichai" as an Eminent Personality of the World to UNESCO.

Furthermore, the conference serves as a vital platform for exchanging knowledge and disseminating research that aligns with UNESCO's criteria. It also facilitates the transfer of social technology and interdisciplinary research, offering attendees deep insights and fresh perspectives on Kruba Srivichai’s way of life and monastic practices.

The two-day conference features the national academic forum on 27 September 2026, followed by the international forum on 28 September 2026. Highlights of the activities include the following:

An academic panel discussion (in Thai) on "Kruba Srivichai Towards a World Eminent Personality: His Path of Dhamma, Lanna Heritage, and Development."

The event has garnered overwhelming interest, bringing together researchers and academics from the public sector, private enterprises, and educational institutions representing 17 domestic organizations. Additionally, delegates from 21 countries are participating and presenting their academic papers. This marks a significant milestone in Buddhist academic circles, elevating the esteemed legacy of the "Saint of Lanna" to gain international recognition.
